Si tout comme moi vous avez parfois des envies inexplicables de remonter dans le temps, alors peut-être que ces livres sortis tout droit des années 1940 peuvent vous intéresser. Vous vous souvenez de toute la propagande « Make-Do-And-Mend » qui encourageait les femmes à réparer et recycler leurs vêtements afin d’éviter les dépenses? Le livre « Make-Do-And-Mend », imprimé pour la première fois en 1943 sur l’ordre du ministère de l’information est maintenant disponible chez Amazon. En effet, l’année dernière on a eu la bonne idée de reproduire plusieurs livres des années 1940. Ce sont des reproductions fidèles de la version originelle. Un deuxième livre qui a l’air tout aussi intéressant: « Eating for Victory » reproduit pour la première fois en un seul livre les conseils officiels du « Ministry of Food », et explique comment continuer à manger sainement et surtout garder le moral même avec le rationnement. Do you remember the « Make-Do-And-Mend campaign that was talked about in « Style on Trial »? Indeed, the « Make Do and Mend » instruction book that was first written in 1943 has only just recently been reprinted. « Make Do and Mend » focuses on how to make the most of the clothes rationing, and families were encouraged to recycle and to repair their used garments to save on using up vital resources. On the other hand, « Eating for Victory » reproduces official Second World War instruction leaflets issued by the Ministry of Food, and shows how the government aimed to keep morale high and to help urge the population to make the most of their ration allowance.
