Au début du 20ème siècle, le 1er avril était la fête des amoureux secrets en France. Comme le poisson est muet, envoyer une carte anonyme avec un poisson était une façon symbolique de déclarer sa flamme. Tel le poisson devenait grand, l’amour devait se transformer en passion! Cette tradition s’est perdue, mais les jolies cartes sont restées désormais intactes:
In France, at the beginning of the 20th Century, anonymous cards were sent to declare your love for someone. The fish symbolised the anonimity of the sender, and traditionally the sender hoped that the little fish would grow into passion between the lovers. Nowadays things are cruder, and you are more likely to be the object of some ridiculous joke rather than to be on the receiving end of one of these adorable cards!
